Are you thinking about getting married at St Peter’s Church? That’s great and we hope to see you soon. The first thing you need to do is to check if you can be married at the church. If you fit into any of the categories below then you are entitled in law to be married at St Peter’s.
- one of you was baptised or prepared for confirmation in the parish;
- one of you does or has lived in the parish for six months or more;
- one of you regularly attends public worship in the parish for at least the past six months or longer;
- one of your parents has lived in the parish for six months or more in their child’s lifetime;
- one of your parents has regularly attended public worship there for six months or more in their child’s lifetime;
- your parents or grandparents were married in the parish.
You do not have to be baptised to be married at St Peter's
If you or your fiancé have been married previously and are now divorced, you are usually able to get married in church but it will be necessary to have a short interview with the vicar.
Most people want to know the cost of the marriage service. The Church of England sets the fees; currently (in 2022) this is £480. This will increase for 2023.
Please note that this figure does not include the cost of the verger (who opens up and prepares the church and tidies up afterwards), the organist or flowers.
